D-Day, also known as Operation Overlord, was the assault on Hitler's "Fortress Europe", or the line of defenses Germany had erected on the western side of France during WWII.  It was one of the beginning steps in retaking Europe from the Germans.

3 million men comprised of 9 different countries were stationed in England in preperation for the attack.
